“Released just in time for Pride Month, the latest from VQnC is a shimmering disco track as colorful as the cosmos themselves.”
READERS SHARE THEIR PICKS FOR THE SONG OF THE SUMMER 2023
“What song will you be listening to on repeat this summer? We asked readers this question recently and received several responses to our survey and on social media with songs from artists like DJ Monique to Kesha to Katrina And The Waves’….Musician John Shakespear released “Borderline” this year. The soft song opens with a strumming guitar and quickly picks up beat. With its gentle but peppy vibe, this song could be the first song you listen to every day this summer.”
WHAT IS A CONCEPT ALBUM ANYWAY?
“Tory, on the other hand, has always known how to dress better than the rest of us; in fact, she is a vintage clothing curator and stylist. But what I’m trying to tell you right now is that something gelled very quickly that day — her voice brought everything together, clicking with the old-school funk bass lines Parker had mastered on his own time and Isaac’s drumming style. I remember us all looking at one another after the practice, stunned: all of a sudden, we had a band.”
NEW LOCAL MUSIC: “HOT ’N HEALTHY” VQNC RETURNS WITH NEW MUSIC
“VQnC is a Somerville-based artist who has brought her unique blend of nu-disco pop and synthy dance-forward beats to the Boston music scene since 2015. Despite nearly a decade of musical growth and the success of her first album Freedom in 2019, she questioned whether she would release music again after the pandemic hit… With the debut of her new single, “Hot ‘N Healthy” on March 14, she put an end to the doubt. It’s the first track off a new album she’s working on that’s set to come out later this year.”
VQnC’s beats set sturdy boundaries on new single ‘Hot ’N Healthy’
…”At first glance, it’s easy to mistake VQnC’s new tune “Hot ’N Healthy” for a workout tape banger. All the right elements are present: A throbbing beat, motivational bellows in VQnC’s sultry tone, cover art speckled with cheetah print against an eye-popping pink backdrop. Yet the Somerville-based funk and R&B singer has created an anthem not for working out, but for working it out between two people — in impeccable style, of course…”
VQnC finds a ‘Fresh’ approach for honoring album anniversaries
… “Creating an album is the manifestation of my lived experiences, it’s finding the right words to illustrate important moments into lyrics, cultivating a sound, and building the right team to bring that vision to life. It is also a celebration of pushing through a lot of self doubt. Being an artist is hard work and it is not for the weary. When you put out an album, your lived experience takes another form and is immortalized. There’s nothing quite cooler than that and ‘Freedom’ will forever be a symbol of that for me.”…
VQnC harmonizes in her happy place for the ‘Golden Days’ video
…”Strolling away, momentarily, from her signature bouncy dance tunes, the Somerville artist has shared her new video “Golden Days,” a visual tied to her 2019 debut record Freedom. Filmed in Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum by Alex Miklowski, the vid leans only on pristine rays of sunshine and VQnC’s vocal harmonies, stripping down the layers of Freedom to reveal a core of gilded optimism and patience.”…
Bands You Should Know — VQnC
…”VQnC's style builds on the music Quinn grew up with. Each song swells with close-harmony vocals fused with four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, synthesizers, electric rhythm guitars, and a lot of good vibes. "I jokingly say that VQnC is a pinch of cowbell, a touch of sass, and a dash of disco claps, but VQC is nu-disco that leans into soul and pop.”…
617 Sessions shares ‘Sound of Our Town’ Boston music compilation
…“Participating in the 617Sessions was a very, very exciting opportunity, because I was given the time and space to work on a song/concept that wasn’t necessarily tied to an album,” says 2019 featured artist VQnC. “As a creative I am constantly dissecting my world, my feelings, and my experiences — and sometimes these different thoughts lead to songs that fit well into a body of work, and sometimes they do not.”…
9 Principles For Starting a Successful Side Hustle
“…Tory is a multi-talented artist, vintage clothing seller, and photographer who just released her band VQnC’s debut album, Freedom, in April 2019 — all the while working as the Deputy Director for Admin Support at ActBlue. Growing up, she watched her parents balance full-time jobs with performing in professional music groups, which gave her a framework for pursuing a multi-hyphen career…”
Hipstory Presents: Boston Answering
“…VQnC, Somerville-based singer and Stevie Nicks incarnate, started off her set with a solo self-care exercise to her song “Golden Days.” As she looped her vocals with a foot pedal, she created a haunting but beautiful sound. She called it a meditation, but it was more than that; she knew how to focus the audience and bring them somewhere peaceful…”
VQnC evokes a club-thumping funk with new track ‘Heart’
“…VQnC knows that true “freedom” lies at the very core of controlling whatever tune is spinning in your soul...”

“…“Emotion” was the type of song that, upon first listen, I knew I would have to really sit down, close my browser tabs, and immerse myself into its psychedelic wonder…”
Premiere: “Miwabe” by VQnC
“…[VQnC] shifts between the swelling, melodic hooks and the spoken word verses seamlessly as the music builds and fractures underneath it…”
